Learn the Parkour Basics

March 20, 2025 by Robin Steele

When learning Parkour, it’s important to start small and learn the basics. You don’t need to be super cool to succeed at this sport. Instead, focus on the basics and practice them until you’re confident enough to move on to more difficult moves. This will keep you safe and help you develop your stamina and confidence.

Most moves in Parkour require jumping, so practicing basic up-and-down jumps is crucial for beginners. Stairs and benches are great places to practice basic jumping. Once you’ve mastered basic up-and-down jumping, you can move on to more complex movements. It’s especially important to learn how to land on your feet and how to balance yourself properly.

Parkour requires coordination, balance, and muscle strength. You can practice balancing on a rail by walking or standing on it. You can also try slacklining to develop your balance. In addition, parkour requires running, explosive sprinting, and endurance. It’s best to find a place that has enough space and is free of obstructions.

Jumping over objects is another important move in Parkour. You can perform jumps vertically to clear tall objects and horizontally to clear large ones. There are many types of jumps, including those that use both legs. Jumpers start by leading with one foot and lifting both legs to clear an obstacle. After landing, they run again.

Training for parkour is vital, so it’s important to find a time to practice every day. Doing parkour training will improve your flexibility and strength, and make you a better freerunner in the long run. A good exercise to do on a daily basis is the muscle up. Muscle ups are good strength-building exercises that can be practiced anywhere, and can help you improve your freerunning skills.

As you progress in your parkour training, you’ll start learning more advanced moves. Beginners should begin by learning the basics of rolling and jumping. They should also be introduced to acrobatic movements. This includes cat leaps, underbars, and wall runs. They should also learn to control their movements and develop their coordination.

Parkour is a type of physical exercise that requires a combination of agility and strategy. You’ll be jumping, vaulting, balancing, and hopping, and you’ll also develop your mental strength by learning how to think outside the box. Anyone can perform these workouts – from adults to kids – and it can be a fun way to stay fit while having fun.

You may be familiar with the term freerunning, but it’s important to understand the difference between the two. While freerunning is an art form that requires an athletic body, parkour focuses on being efficient and thoughtful towards others and the environment. And you can also learn parkour at any age! You’ll be surprised at how much fun you can have learning this art form.

The first step in learning the basics of parkour is to learn how to balance your body. There are several ways to do this, but the most effective method of learning is to find other people practicing in your area. You can do a quick Google search to find groups in your area. These groups usually have forums you can join.
